Completed in 2001, Cardinal Ridge has become a nationwide
model for the redevelopment of public housing. Cardinal Ridge
is a community programmed for the 21st century, offering an
array of residential choices and serving senior citizens and
families with a broad mix of incomes. Cardinal Ridge Manor
provides 90 one- and two-bedroom apartments for seniors. The
Villas at Cardinal Ridge include 70 two- and three-bedroom
town homes and apartments for families. It was the first development
in the country to use HUD HOPE VI funds to place public housing
in a mixed-income setting in a suburban area close to jobs
and shopping. The Development is privately managed by Cohen
Esrey Real Estate Services.

Currently under renovation, Chouteau Courts will offer families
134 units between one- and five-bedrooms in size. Financed
in part by a $4 million bank loan, the innovative financing
agreement is just the second of its kind in the country and
allows the Housing Authority to complete the renovation project
at Chouteau Courts by mid-2002.

The FDLC serves as the centerpiece locations for HAKC's active
Resident Services program. On-site children's day care is
available for residents who choose to participate in the Family
Self Sufficiency Program, job skills training, computer classes

Family Support Services facility, the Garrison Community Center,
the Boys & Girls Club and the Division of Family Services.

of all ages. Completely renovated in 1999, the 232 units present

Family Development and Learning Center. Riverview is privately
managed under contract with the Housing Authority.

The nearly 450 Scattered Site homes offer residents the opportunity
to experience public housing in beautiful new and renovated
town homes, duplexes and single-family homes located throughout
Kansas City. The HAKC Scattered Site homes fully embrace the
'deconcentration' of public housing away from the urban core
and into suburban neighborhoods giving HAKC residents a choice
of nine different school districts and more convenient access
to jobs and services. HAKC Scattered Sites are privately managed
under contract with the Housing Authority.

Villa del Sol's location overlooking the Kansas City skyline

each of the 65 public housing one- to three-bedroom homes

Wayne Miner Court - 1940 East 11th Street

Early in 2003, renovation at Wayne Miner was completed.
The 74 units in 15 buildings surrounding the original high-rise
apartments received extensive environmental abatement and
complete modernization. The apartment complex epitomizes
the new look of Kansas City public housing, with new porticos
and private entries for residents. The apartments are four-
and five-bedroom units, and, as part of the revitalization,
some five-bedroom units were converted to four-bedroom
units to add more living area. Wayne Miner's clustered
family feel, access to downtown and the large unit sizes
appeal to families and their children.
